puppy love

Ruth Mair from Banchory donated the sale of her litter of eight 'Cockerdors' puppies in Summer 2008. The surprise litter of pups came about after two of her seven dogs , Meg (labrador) and Moss (cocker spaniel) had a romantic moment in the Spring. All of the pups were eventually sold off locally for £200, with a condition of sale that they were given a Nepalese name*.

To no-one's great surprise, Mike Steven made the fatal mistake of popping around to her house to say thanks and ended up leaving with one of his own, Maya (far right)

Local Deeside sculptor Carol Adams kindly donated one of her infamous wooden carvings to the Helambu Project. The art of chainsaw carving is a rural folk art that combines the raw power of a chainsaw with the artistic finesse of fine carving, unique works of art. Carol regularly competes in national and regional competitions as well as being asked to appear in shows, where she get the chance to show off her skill (and strength!) needed to create a work of art from a chunk of firewood.

(not going) cheap!

Friends of Mike Steven's parents from the Elgin community, Morayshire kindly donated £260 toward the project in September 2008.

Susan Singer from Banchory held a Virgin V party in August, raising £80.

Elaine Craddock from Earby, lancashire undertook a sponsored walk in June 2008 raising £150. Elaine visited Helambu in August 2007 with Dorjee hired as her guide. She plans to fundraise further in the months ahead and with hopes to re-visit the area in future.

Raymond Walker kindly donated the sale of his mountain bike in the summer raising £200.

The Bradbury family also raised £40 from the sale of some children's toys prior to emigrating to Canada in October.

Amy Stark met Dorjee whilst trekking to Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Rii in early 2008. After learning more about the work of Dorjee and the Helambu Project, she has kindly offered to donate any funds from the various talks in her local community to the project and to date has raised over two hundred pounds. Her local Ackworth Social Centre very kindly decided to donate a further £100 at their AGM in October 2009.

Mamma Mia! Hakan Bergfeldt of Banchory had a surprise 65th birthday in November 2008. Flares and platforms were the order of the day as they were all taken back to life in the seventies with a fancy dress theme. Those who attended very kindly raised £230 on the evening with all of the proceeds been given to Helambu

Sharon Roughton and Julie  visited the school in early summer 2009 and on returning home, raised £550 by doing a presentation to x work colleagues. xxx kindly donated £500.

After a 7-way tie with scores of 23/25 the eventual winner was found by drawing a name from the hat on 3rd June 2010. Well done to Mrs M Noble of Laurencekirk who won first place and the £50 Garden Centre voucher. None of this would have been possible without the imagination and hard work of Helen Cross - so on behalf of all those involved with the Helambu Project we’d like to offer our sincere thanks.
